How to get in Samos

- By Boat: To the two ports of the Samos Island (Vathi and Karlovasi) – itineraries run daily from Piraeus and Thessaloniki.
Places to VisitThe city of Samos (Vathi) - 9 km from the Nafsika Villas In Samos Town you may visit the Samos Archaeological Museum, with exhibits of amazing interest, sculptures, ceramics and bronze.
Prominent the giant Kouros of 5.5 meters, unique finding, and the area Hereon, the statue of the elegant daughter and giant statue of Trajan, the Roman Emperor. In the Byzantine Church Museum are exhibited sacred objects and relics from the Monasteries of Samos. Relax in Pythagoras Square, dominated by the famous Lion, which took its name from the ancient Samian philosopher, mathematician.
A walk in the beautiful Ano Vathi, will charm you. It is a typical example of a traditional town. Near the church of Agia Paraskevi, are two towers, one of Captain Lahanas (1717) and one of the Aga Giannakis (1735). Discover them as they are enclosed within the beautiful dense settlement.

Heraion (20 km from Vathi) In Heraion, the archaeological site of the island, where according to tradition was born and grew the goddess Hera, are the ruins of the temple of "Imvrassia Hera". It is one of the largest temples of the ancient world (6th century BC) provided the right of asylum.
Moreover, the "Sacred Way" which was 4880 meters long and connected the city with the ancient Heraion.

Pythagorion (11 km from Vathi) The majestic Pythagorion named the top ancient Greek mathematician Pythagoras. Pythagorion is the most developed village of Samos, well developed for tourism, with a port where dozens of yachts are mooring daily.
In Pythagorion there are ruins of the "Ancient Theater", the "Roman Baths" and the famous "Tunnel of Eupalinos" technical marvel of the 6th century that is drawing the ancient city.

- a. Eupalinian Aqueduct built by the engineer Eupalinos. He designed the opening of the tunnel 1036 meters in length and 180 meters in depth from the top of the hill Kastri. The tunnels began simultaneously in North and South side of the rocky mountain and applying mathematical calculations, finally met each other with success.

- b. The cave of Pythagoras. According to the tradition, here had fled Pythagoras in his attempt to escape the wrath of Tyrant Polycrates. While access to that area via an uphill path is difficult and requires caution, the lovely scenery will compensate the bold.
Kokkari (10 km from Vathi) Is a coastal town that monopolizes the preferences of the tourists. Built on a small peninsula extends along the coastal road. Kokkari with its taverns, cafes and bars, gives the option of a sheltered beach, when it's too windy.
Mytilinioi (13 km from Vathi) Mytilinioi is a mountain town of Samos, which owes its name to the first inhabitants, who came from Lesvos Island (Mytilini). In Mytilinioi is located the Natural History Museum of the Aegean, which hosts the bones of prehistoric animals and the most valuable finding is the petrified brain of a pony, aged 13 million years.

Pnaka (20 km from Vathi) A small village near Vourliotes with running waters and lush vegetation. Beautiful place for a day trip and lunch at a tavern, tasting traditional dishes of Samos.
Karlovassi (35 km from Vathi) Karlovasi is the second port of Samos Island and connects the island with mainland of Greece. It is a major commercial and financial center of the island and has many attractions, including the Folk Art Museum.
Potami - Katarraktes (River - Waterfalls) (35 km from Vathi) Area with nice beaches near Karlovasi Samos. Katarraktes (Waterfalls) is one of the surprises of the island. Access to them is easy and is made from a comfortable path to the first waterfall and then from there, if you want to reach the large waterfall, you should continue climbing 50-60 stairs, where you will enjoy magnificent views of surrounding forests. An ideal destination that combines the rugged beauty and swimming under the water of the waterfall.
Excursions from the island of SamosSamiopoula Start your trip on the nearby island by boat leaving from the port of Pythagorion. The visit to the desert islet of Samiopoula, with beautiful and pristine beaches will reward you.
Seitania From the port of Karlovasi start by boat for a sail in North Samos. You will pass by the beach called Potami and you will reach the Great Seitania beach, where Kakoperato Gorge exits to the sea. Enjoy a unique landscape with dense vegetation and clear water.
Kasonissi (just 1 km from the Nafsika Villas)
This tiny island, you can visit in 3 ways:
- a. walk by a path starting from the beach of Nafsika Villas,
- b. by boat from Pythagorion, and
- c. the most adventurous way is by boat with a fisherman of the Gulf of Kerveli.
Patmos, Kalymnos, Fourni, Lipsi, Chios, Lesvos and Turkey
(15 n.m. Ephesus, Kusadasi) Samos has regular internal transportation from Vathi to the above destinations. This enables guests to make daily island excursions.
Samos beaches Some of the most beautiful beaches of Samos you can visit are:
Kerveli, Tsamadou (half the beach is a nudist beach) Lemonakia, River, Golden Sands (Marathokampos Bay), Potokaki, Mycale, Psili Ammos (this is the closest point of Samos from the coast of Turkey), Kokkari (for lovers the windsurfing), etc.
Local Products of Samos The local products of Samos necessarily have to try them. Generously offered to visitors. The famous Samian wine, olive oil, herbs and spices, honey, bouknakia (kind of sweet fig) Bournelaki (tomatoes), klossakia (a cross between cucumber and melon), are just some of what you can taste.
Do not forget to visit the pottery centers in areas Mavratzaioi and Koumaradaioi where you can buy pottery, and the invention of Pythagoras called "Fair Mug" which was an invention in order to drink equal quantities of wine at the symposiums that ancient period.
A traditional Samian food should definitely try is the "Stuffed Goat."
